It’s great book for a single buyer only getting one book. Very informative on all subjects and explains in good detail about owning, storing, handling a firearm. What it’s not helpful on is when the instructor has to tag the pages of the topics that will be taught in class and yet, not seeing the organization of the book coinciding with the slides that are sent to instructors. Have to go back and forth flipping through the book looking for each topic. That doesn’t work among many instructors that are trying to stay on a good path of teaching what’s in the book. And the instructors opinions are not as valued when it comes to literally the most important subjects that will affect people differently in each state. I sincerely hope for the next edition, more instructors are communicated with outside of USCCA and those instructors have a great deal of support when it comes to teaching what’s important. I’m hear to give honest opinion, sorry if anyone is offended.

Thank you for your feedback here, this will certainly be considered for future editions. The book was designed to be able to be read as a stand-alone resource to help responsibly armed Americans. While the course you were taking did draw from the core lessons in the textbook, the content of the course inherently has to try and cover as much material as possible, within the time frame of the class at hand.

If you own a firearm, then this book is a MUST read. It is well laid out, concisely covers the topics, and while incredibly educational, is also entertaining. This is not a “nice-to-have”, you owe it to yourself and your family to read this cover to cover.

It’s not just important information for the CPL holder, it’s important for all concerned. I believe that having everyone who may be subjected to the same incident as the CPL holder thinking along the same lines will be as important to the outcome and aftermath of a situation.

As a Fire Arms Educator I am using USCCA’S – “Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals” In my firearms Educational Training. It is an excellent text and as part of my course I have my students read it cover to cover. The combination of pictorial illustrations, charts and statistics along with the explanations are excellent. My previous occupation was that of an Insurance Claims Investigator dealing with multi-types of claims including Fire, Arson and Explosion and a spectrum of others in the Casualty Field, including Aviation and litigation so I relate well to Mr. Martin’s E.T.B. ( Education Training and Background). The students come away with an with an excellent insight into the ramifications and responsibility of carrying a lethal weapons. The USCCA magazine is also and exceptional one and covers timely topics. I order specific issues as hand outs for my classes.

With recent issues in our country I have become a new firearms owner. Research through videos & books has been my go to along with range time. This book has been a great addition to my knowledge and training. From basics of proper hold techniques, how to clear jams and more advanced training drills this book has been amazing. Having a heads up on some of the legal side of ever being involved in a incident where I have to protect my family has been eye opening. I’ve been using Michael Martins course since I joined in 2014. Would like to get the 2nd Edition, DVD’s, to go with it. Doesn’t appear to be available any longer to Associate Instructors. My students love it.
